10 of the best: IKEA for kids

August 17, 2016

Yesterday I was at the launch event for the new IKEA catalogue for 2017, where guests were not only treated to great food (seriously, try the new pulled salmon sandwich) but we were walked through the new products, even using virtual reality to make dinner in a digital kitchen. I know. Very cool. And once home I got lost in the catalogue for more time than is probably deemed healthy.

I’ve loved IKEA since it opened in Gateshead when I was 10, and the mini pencils were just about the most exciting thing to arrive in the North East. I was all about the bright duvet covers and lamps, and not much has changed since. Apart from the fact I have a whole house to fill, and not just my bedroom. Hurrah.

There’s also a child to factor in (her nursery is decidedly Scandi) so I wanted to offer up my edit of the new catalogue, from nappy bags to furniture. There are some great new products (I want all of the FLISAT range), some prices have been reduced and the message is bang on brand for me – forgetting about perfection and saying goodbye to expectation e.g. embracing mismatched plates, and not photographing your meatballs. Ahem.

Here goes…

I’ve loved IKEA ever since we arrived in Dubai 6 years ago – we don’t have IKEA back home in South Africa – can’t wait to get a look at the new catalogue!

  2. The products are lovely, no doubt but what a great ‘topic’ to do a blog post on.
