Tried and tested: healthy pouches for babies

September 25, 2016

As a typical mum, eg stupidly busy, I have long relied on a combination of oh-so easy convenient pouches and home-cooking to get us through weaning, exploring tastes, and now nursery snacks.

However, I’ve always felt a bit (okay, a lot) guilty about it, not 100% sure what’s going into them – and I’m sure I’m not alone. However, I recently found Bubs in Spinneys, and thought I’d give them a try after reading the list of ingredients, and – most importantly – what’s NOT in them. They’ve even been nominated in the upcoming Mother, Baby & Child awards in the Baby Food Range of the Year category for their good work and good food.

Bubs is an organic, Australian brand, and their philosophy is grounded in superfoods, creating nutrient dense, healthy products. They use ingredients including fruit and vegetables, wholefoods and ancient grains, with the likes of raspberries, spinach, quinoa, amaranth, coconut, flaxseed, millet, raw cacao, chia, fig and probiotics. I know, these kids are eating better than me…

They also have a range of formula based on goat milk and goat whey protein, which are perfect for little ones with a sensitivity to cow milk protein, and this alternative is well worth trying if your baby has suffered from digestive discomfort, colic, eczema, constipation and other digestion-related issues. No wonder they’re up for another award!

With a toddler to feed and another baby on the way, things are just going to get busier, but I’m feeling much happier – and a lot more confident – about pouches. Phoebe loves Bubs (eg I have to hide them) and they’re a perfect part of breakfast or on-the-go snack for toddlers. Our favourites include raw cacao custard with raspberries, pumpkin and kumera cous cous and organic dry baby porridge with quinoa, oatmeal & banana (seriously, this is what you pay a fortune for in trendy cafes for a weekend breakfast!!!).

It’s superfoods for super kids (and supermums).

Back to the Mother, Baby & Child awards – because just for voting you will be in with a chance to win an amazing three-night stay for two adults and two children at the five-star Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort, including breakfast, Sunday brunch, and airport transfers, worth over AED 5,000.

All you need to do is vote and share (you can vote for only one category if you like), and you’re automatically entered into the draw.

Bubs can be found in Spinneys, Carrefour, Milk & Honey, Geant, Lulu and select UAE supermarkets for around AED 9.25 per pouch.
