Six to try: where kids eat free in Dubai

May 8, 2017

There’s no denying it; eating out as a family is expensive, but if you know where to go (and what to order) you could save some cash. Also note that I’m not afraid to take leftovers home! Here are a few of my favourites if you’re on a budget, but still want to treat the family.

Arrows & Sparrows

This cool cafe in The Greens is both dog AND child-friendly, and they’re now offering free meals for kids on weekdays between 2pm and 7pm when an adult orders food. We went recently and it was a massive hit: Phoebe had pasta with a hidden veggie sauce and I ordered the Korean chicken. Both delicious, it meant I didn’t have to cook – and her leftovers were perfect for nursery the next day. Yesssss. The menu is fab, with healthy options that they will actually eat. Highly recommended.

Bystro

I’m in Bystro at least three times a week for meetings, work sessions and – of course – eating. There’s a little play area for children, a dedicated menu and friendly staff, but parents will especially love the ‘kiddies eat free’ offer, where every day (apart from Sunday) from 5pm to 7pm under 12s can pick a dish from the menu and you don’t need to pay a dirham when ordering a main meal for an adult. Options include chicken breast with herby rice and veg, the Bystro burger, pasta, fish goujons, sausage and mash, and breakfast dishes. And a babycino is always on the house.

Carluccio’s

If you’re in need of a carb fest then Carluccio is your man. While not strictly free, the new Dhs1 menu is close enough! Adults need to order a main meal (priced from Dhs39) then your child can take their pick from dishes including ravioli, chicken Milanese, pizza and lasagne.

Jones The Grocer

You’ll need to order two adult mains from the Everyday Menu to score a freebie for the kids at Jones The Grocer, but the dishes for little ones are great (and organic) with soups, fish ‘n’ chips and wagyu meatballs. Grown-ups can take their pick from mighty mains including pastas, steak and the famed burger. And don’t leave without trying those truffle fries.

Mo’s

This CityWalk restaurant is a real favourite for big weekend breakfasts (the silver dollar pancakes are awesome), but come Sunday they offer free meals for under 11s when an adult orders a main. It’s all about the Americana, with mac ‘n’ cheese, burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches and spaghetti with meatballs, while the grown-up menu is vast, covering everything from shrimp tacos to quinoa salad.

Ronda Locatelli

Most Dubai brunches will let under sixes loose at the buffet for free, but this award-winning Italian restaurant in Atlantis The Palm is especially generous, offering complimentary dining for under 11s. Best of all, there’s children’s entertainment, including pizza making and art, so you can enjoy traditional dishes, including calamari and pastas, in peace. The brunch is priced at Dhs295 for adults, including house drinks.
